Tribute to classic noir pictures, this is a quirky blend of detective mystery and self-aware comedy. Weary P.I. Mitchum, perfectly cast, is contacted by wily Borgnine, an ex-con, who wants his help in handing over a ransom for his kidnapped granddaughter. Mitchum muses that the situation is similar to a scene in “Farewell, My Lovely” (which he had starred in). So he prepared when he is bamboozled ...
