Overview - Based on the operetta of the same name by Carl Milöcker. The residents of an Austrian town decide to teach their eccentric mayor a lesson. A young fisherman dresses up as the famous bandit Gaspare and goes to see the mayor. The mayor, terrified, flees from "Gaspare" and commits a series of ridiculous acts, becoming the laughing stock of the whole town.
