Phyllis Calvert ("Maddalena") is attacked whilst walking through the forest. A substantial side-effect of this trauma is that she develops a split-personality. On one hand, she is a respectably married lady who has a daughter at boarding school; on the other, a sultry gypsy very much in love with the swarthy Stewart Granger ("Nino").
